Contrary to popular belief the island doesn’t go to sleep out of the summer season and there’s a healthy music scene that doesn’t revolve around club venues with (to quote xfm) “gurning trance monkeys…” Girlz School have a refreshing attitude that means they’ll play anything as long as its not “house music”.

To prove its not just a winter thing they’re back with another night of “anything BUT house”… Thursday 12th July down at Bar de Medio in Ibiza Port… It’s always a stonking night.

We first heard about them through a canadian radio station back in about Nov/Dec last year, so when they got added to the Ibiza Rocks bill we were surprised - pleasantly though

There hasn’t been a band so far this year who havent failed to impress and CSS didn’t buck the trend - if you’re at a festival this summer anywhere in europe you’ll probably see them on the bill somewhere - make the effort and see them - It was a privilege to see them in such a small venue - thats not going to happen very often.

The highlight of the gig though has to be the cover version they did of L7’s - Pretend We’re Dead - that made the night.

With all the rubbish thats going around with the clubs etc its such a pleasure to get back to music. After Simian Mobile Disco had to pull out, The Hungover Stuntmen who are recording at Andy Taylors studio at the moment, stepped in and played down at Bar M tonight. We weren’t the only ones who enjoyed the gig… Another top night.

We’d taken a break and sitting on the balcony when all of a sudden this bird decided to stop by and sit on the sat tv dish for a least 3 minutes…. We assume (s)he’s escaped from somewhere..

This past few week has seen an amazing contrast music wise. First off we met the Hungover Stuntmen at Andy Taylors studio, Tuesday was Ibiza Rocks, Wednesday we saw young talent at Morna International College and last night the amazingly talented Paco Fernandez in probably his ideal setting…

Las Dalias is a small venue that is arguably the true home of live music in Ibiza - its history is littered with some of the bigest names in rock: (check their myspace site here).

Watching Paco play in any setting is great but when its in the gardens of Las Dalias on a lovely warm summer evening its something special. Latterly accompanied by Jon Michell on guitar and a beautiful spanish dancer, Paco and his small band entranced everyone. If you’re not moved by this then you probably don’t have a pulse.
