Pictures from last nights Butterfly Ball in Ibiza
Posted by: admin in Asociación de Ibiza y Formentera Contra Cancer, aifcc, butterfly ball, macmillan cancer support, macmillon trustIt was a great night at Es Vive. Unfortunately we were outbid on the signed framed ibiza rocks posters but we did manage to snag the signed viz album. Keith, as the auctioneer, was brilliant, Jill the organiser behind it all looked fabulous and a good time was had by all.
Afterwards everyone went to the back room bar where it all got rather messy. We ended up falling down the steps on the way out and have a big horrible gash on the arm to prove it and a missing mobile phone in the process… a good night then!
As usual, click on the images for larger versions…
Theres probably a scientific reason but we always think that every year the sunsets start to improve from october onwards.

If anyone wants to send us a nice wifi webcam video piece of equipment we’d love to do a realtime car park and sunset cam

This is a chance for island residents (and anyone else for that matter) to give something back to the island as its in aid of the islands local Cancer Charity and the UK Macmillons cancer support trust - charities that are very close to home to a lot of people here…
You can email the organisers through their myspace page or email: thebutterflyballATgooglemail.com
so we make no apology of copying and pasting todays press release (albiet tarted up for the web ;) )
‘The Butterfly Ball’
In aid of MACMILLAN CANCER SUPPORT +
AECC (Asociación Española contra el Cáncer)
Tues 9th October
Hotel Es Vive (Figueretas), Ibiza
From 20.30hrs.
Now wake all at once to a loud trumpet call,
To tell them this greatest of days has begun,
The day of the Feast and The Butterfly Ball”
William Plomer, The Butterfly Ball
The concept of The Butterfly Ball stems from a children’s book first published in 1973.
Written in poetic form by William Plomer and beautifully illustrated by Alan Aldridge, the book tells the tale of the creatures of the forest preparing themselves for ‘The Big Day’ - the day of The Butterfly Ball and the Grasshoppers Feast.
The event of the same name has been organised to take place in Ibiza in order to raise much needed funds for both Macmillan Cancer Support in the UK and the Spanish Cancer Association, AECC.
In order to raise awareness and cash for the cause, a night of eating (a sumptuous Thai Buffet), drinking(champagne to start), bidding(celebrity auction) and dancing(in the Hotel Es Vive’s Cabaret Bar) has been meticulously organised as a way to do just that.
The festivities will commence at 20.30 when the Hotel’s doors will be opened to guests, who will be greeted with champagne and canapés. The Buffet will follow on, a veritable feast of Thai delights, prepared by the in house chefs of Hotel Es Vive. Once guests have been sufficiently fed and watered, the Butterfly Celebrity Auction will commence.
Amongst other items up for grabs to the highest bidder; signed shirts from the likes of David Beckham and Pau Gasol, rock memorabilia from artists including Arctic Monkeys and Kaiser Chiefs, art from a range of well known artists, Marcos Torres and Gary Cook amongst them, weekend breaks and spa treatments from island hospitality institutions including Pikes, Atzaro, the Hotel Es Vive itself, not to mention the various other collectable antiques and unique items on offer in the auction.
The auction will be hosted by Keith Holden, legendary island character. Giving him a hand on the stage, the event’s presenter and island personality, Jessica Henderson (aka DJess)
Tonights Ibiza Sunset
Posted by: admin in Asociación de Ibiza y Formentera Contra Cancer, aifcc, butterfly ball, es vive, ibiza, macmillon trust, sunsetAfter the big blow out storm yesterday its back to business as usual… The great thing about this time of year from now on is that the sun sets to the left of the horrible crane we can see from our balcony and we think they are far better than the summer sunsets… Tonight we got a lovely golden sunset.

Dont forget:
We’ll be at a do tomorrow where some of the items will be on display, so we’ll post pictures up tomorrow afternoon.
Occasionally we find stuff that reminds of us why we love this island and everyone around us.
There’s going to be a film that may have the same impact as farenheit 911 or bowling for colombine by michael moore
keep a look out for last white hope - its an eyeopener

Guarana’s 11th Anniversary party, Ibiza
Posted by: admin in Santa Eulalia, guarana, ibiza
Eleven years serving the island’s insatiable appetite for entertainment - even throughout the winter… Happy birthday Guarana!
This really is a rather special venue and deserves its place amongst the hall of fame of Ibiza clubs, but not only because it’s always there for those of us fortunate enough to be trapped here throughout those, allegedly, boring winter months…
Click on on any of the images for larger versions:
Alex, the boss, has a brave music policy, bringing in cutting edge talent from the Spanish mainland or even further afield, that most of us have never heard of. Tonight, for the birthday party, it was Jose Luis Pardo and the Mojo Workers delivering an excellent set of blues for the connoisseur.
The early crowd wasn’t huge - Sunday live music nights start on the terrace, with everyone enjoying the mild late summer evening exchanging pleasantries. When the live band start up, people gradually drift in throughout the first set to get used to the sounds. By the time the second set kicks off everybody’s ready to dance and the tempo steps up.
All in all it’s like a sneak preview of the forthcoming winter. A time when the tourists more or less leave and the island residents down tools and renew acquaintance with each other for the all-too-short winter.
Guarana is that sort of a place. It never gets completely mobbed by tourists - it’s too far off the beaten track running from San Antonio to Ibiza and Bossa via the big two in San Rafael. Instead it’s on the ‘local’s circuit’, which is why it can boast of being one of the only regularly attended winter options on Ibiza - alongside Pacha.
Even in deep winter you know they’ll be there for you, full of like minds who don’t want to stay in and watch another DVD. You might just want a packet of fags in the early hours, but the odds are you’ll end up staying for a drink and, before you know it. the sun will be rising again…
