Mid July saw the 10th anniversary of We Love Space at the club of the same name with DJs like Steve Lawler, Layo & Bushwacker etc, but on a tip from mates we went to the beach. Cala Jondal in fact, and the Tropicana Beach bar to be precise.

It was samba night and a couple of hundred were assembled around the chiringuito alongside the seafront restaurant in the sand. To be fair, they were almost all dancing to the music emanating from the samba band on stage rather than ‘assembled’ and a mixed crowd of all ages were enjoying themselves big time. From the kids in the playground through the dance floor to the grandparents tables, where the clink of caipihrino glasses could be heard between songs.

Unsurprisingly the crowd were predominantly of Latino origin and for this reason there was a predominance of attractive women with exceptional dancing skills.

Nonetheless, a few brave members of the other gender, who’d clearly had lessons, cruised elegantly amongst them twirling their partners around in often indecent clinches, This looked like fun - perhaps samba lessons wouldn’t be such a bad idea. I haven’t seen a better way yet to get close up and dirty with a fit, writhing beauty. The smiling and confident men in their midst looked unusually well exercised too, and I’m not entirely convinced that this was just down to dancing…

A brilliant night dancing in the sand - we could all have been on Cabana beach…

The ultimate rally deluxe - the most exclusive cars, the most beautiful women, the best champagne, Europe’s hottest places: Cannes, Barcelona, Ibiza, Nice, Lago di Garda and Munich. By sea, air, and road: the participants of the ROYAL RACE CHARITY RUN accomplish the 3500 kilometer route from 17th - 21st September 2008 by several resources. Meeting point is Cannes on the world-famous Croisette. The first party starts in the VIP lounge of the “Le Baoli”, where Naomi Campbell celebrated at the Dolce & Gabbana bash. Next day the ROYAL RACERS will drive alongside the Spanish Mediterranean coast to Barcelona. From Barcelona the luxury cars will be brought by a ferry to Ibiza. All drivers will be shuttled with private jets to the party-island. After dining everybody will be celebrating in cooperation with FASHION TV and Moet Chandon in EL DIVINO, the most exclusive club of Ibiza.

From Ibiza to Nice: the cars will be brought by a ferry to the mainland, the ROYAL RACERS of course with private jets. From Nice the route continues to Lago di Garda. The final spurt will be covered on Sunday by the ROYAL RACERS by car. The section in Germany is really predestinated for that - because there is no speed limit! In the Bavarian capitol the ROYAL RACERS can estimate a crowning final at the Oktoberfest - of course wearing the national dress. At this final party the charity cheque will be consigned to a represantative of PETA.

The turnout for this extraordinary event is limited of an exclusive group of maximum 60 wheelers. Closing date is 15th August 2008.

After the usual island shenanigans the past few days or so we just got confirmation that We Are Scientists will be playing at the Ibiza Rocks Hotel tomorrow night.

They’ll be ably supported by Whitey and it all kicks off from 7.30pm tomorrow night.

Ryanair have put their winter timetable up and for the first time there will be direct flights between Ibiza and Stansted. They are running every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday and a very reasonably priced…

One of the team is going back at Christmas so over the weekend we tried to book flights. To gve you an idea a return flight on 23rd December returning 2 weeks later was a very cheap 112 euros (including taxes!)

El Bar in Pacha’s El Hotel will be doing live rock and blues from Sunday - it seems that Pacha have recognised there’s a market for rock here as well…

The 11th DJ Awards taking place at Pacha on Thursday 25th September have announced the nominees for 2008.

In the past, this event has been attended by dance music’s top DJs, previous winners, such as Erick Morillo, Roger Sanchez, Sven Vath, Tiesto, Paul Oakenfold, Danny Tenaglia, Ferry Corsten, Carl Cox plus many more have had the honour of receiving the mythic “Kryptonite” award. This event continues to be a family reunion amongst the DJ collective, who love to come together and celebrate the industry they have influenced.

There will be some very special guest performances during the awards ceremony, with the official after party continuing with the closing party from the F**k Me I’m Famous Crew featuring David Guetta.

The theme for this is years event is “DO NOT CHANGE THE CLIMATE, CHANGE YOURSELF!” highlighting the voice of concern to the music industry and how we as an industry can help to make change by changing our attitudes.

The artwork for the Climate Change theme of the event is also reflected in the cover of the 11th Edition CD compilation featuring the best tracks of the season all in their original versions.

They say familiarity breeds contempt, so it came as little surprise to learn that tonight’s gig at the San Rafael Hippodrome would be the last at this venue for the time being.

On the other side of the familiarity coin is the fact that the Enemy have played at Ibiza Rocks three times in the last twelve months and most of us are now familiar with their debut album “We’ll Live and Die in these Towns”.

This is cool as it means the pre-party can take place in the car on the way to the gig with the help of the iPod.

Upon arrival we discover that the VIP bit has gone to make room for the ever growing crowd, so our favourite bar staff have been moved upstairs to a terrace with a crap side view of the stage, but a fine view of an almost full moon rising over the stage as darkness descends and the night reaches its climax.

In the face of this powerful wall of sound, remarkably delivered by just three small men from Coventry, the regular rock chicks assigned to the podium resort to waving their arms and inflatable guitars in the air as they realize that all attention is focused on the stage.

When the band depart just before 11 we are left without an encore, but with a view of the trotting race circuit and its magnificent fountain in the centre of a large pond, as we discuss the whereabouts of next week’s gig, to a background of banging tunes through the festival style sound system.

S’Argamassa Palace Hotel in Es Cana is holding jazz jam sessions every friday - with the hope that it will extend beyond summer and through the winter.

Entrance is free and drinks are reasonably priced, it is also air-condintioned and comfortable.

They’ll be some great musicians sitting in every week so if you fancy something different or love jazz, pop down.
