‘The Butterfly Ball’
In aid of MACMILLAN CANCER SUPPORT +
AECC (Asociación Española contra el Cáncer)
Tues 9th October
Hotel Es Vive (Figueretas), Ibiza
From 20.30hrs.
Now wake all at once to a loud trumpet call,
To tell them this greatest of days has begun,
The day of the Feast and The Butterfly Ball”
William Plomer, The Butterfly Ball
The concept of The Butterfly Ball stems from a children’s book first published in 1973.
Written in poetic form by William Plomer and beautifully illustrated by Alan Aldridge, the book tells the tale of the creatures of the forest preparing themselves for ‘The Big Day’ - the day of The Butterfly Ball and the Grasshoppers Feast.
The event of the same name has been organised to take place in Ibiza in order to raise much needed funds for both Macmillan Cancer Support in the UK and the Spanish Cancer Association, AECC.
In order to raise awareness and cash for the cause, a night of eating (a sumptuous Thai Buffet), drinking(champagne to start), bidding(celebrity auction) and dancing(in the Hotel Es Vive’s Cabaret Bar) has been meticulously organised as a way to do just that.
The festivities will commence at 20.30 when the Hotel’s doors will be opened to guests, who will be greeted with champagne and canapés. The Buffet will follow on, a veritable feast of Thai delights, prepared by the in house chefs of Hotel Es Vive. Once guests have been sufficiently fed and watered, the Butterfly Celebrity Auction will commence.
Amongst other items up for grabs to the highest bidder; signed shirts from the likes of David Beckham and Pau Gasol, rock memorabilia from artists including Arctic Monkeys and Kaiser Chiefs, art from a range of well known artists, Marcos Torres and Gary Cook amongst them, weekend breaks and spa treatments from island hospitality institutions including Pikes, Atzaro, the Hotel Es Vive itself, not to mention the various other collectable antiques and unique items on offer in the auction.
The auction will be hosted by Keith Holden, legendary island character. Giving him a hand on the stage, the event’s presenter and island personality, Jessica Henderson (aka DJess)
