We had a great time down at the 3rd Butterfly Ball at Es Vive last night. The food was great, the atmosphere was lively and everyone seemed to enjoy it. Keith Holden put on his “porno king” alter-ego as the auctioneer and was hilarious. Halfway through it did rain so we all went inside the poolside bar. Keith stood on the bar to conduct the auction but managed to smash one of the lights in the process - the bar staff were not amused but Jason (the owner) didn’t mind. The rain only lasted about 15 minutes or so and then it was back outside for the rest of the auction.

Prior to the main auction Chas Smith ex of Madness treated us to an acoustic set including a wonderful 5 minute poem. Our friend Lorna videoed the night so we’re hoping to put that up shortly. Last year raised over 12,000 euros but going by some of the lots we confidently predict that that will be exceeded this year. All the proceeds will go to benefit APNEEF, the island’s local association for children with special needs in Ibiza and Formentera which cares for almost 100 local children of all ages, all with a wide variety of both mental and physical disabilities.

We easily got outbid for the Messi signed Barcelona shirt and the Sid Vicious painting and we did try for the signed Zidane, Ronaldo and Guti shirts. Afterwards we all went to the inside bar which continued on till sometime this morning…

PRESS CALL

With just over one week to go before Ibiza’s annual Charity Fundraiser ‘The Butterfly Ball’ takes place for third time and in it’s second consecutive year at Hotel Es Vive, momentum is gaining pace with support, volunteers and donations for the event and it’s infamous auction are still coming in thick and fast.

Pure Madness!

Whilst behind the scenes he goes by the name of Carl Smyth, to the rest of us he’s better known as Chas Smash, kingpin of legendary ska band, Madness. Since the late 70’s and to the present day, and with international hits including ‘Our House’ and ‘Nightboat to Cairo’ and ‘It must be Love’, Madness remain a vital modern musical reference with international sell out tours packing venues as recently as 2007.

Therefore, it’s with great pleasure that the organisers of Ibiza’s annual charity event, The Butterfly Ball, to be held in Hotel Es Vive, Ibiza on 8th October , can confirm that the very same Chas Smash is set to perform an exclusive acoustic set at the event itself. A first not only for the Butterfly Ball, but for the island.

Fresh from a whirlwind of touring stadium venues including London’s 02 , and the summer festivals (BBK Bilbao, Sonar Barcelona), Chas is back once again on the island that, as of one year ago, he has called home. Luck shone down on us, with the confirmation of his solo performance at The Butterfly Ball.

APNEEF (Ibiza & Formentera Disabled Children Foundation)
The Butterfly Ball and it’s organisers Jill Canney and Elena Sanchez have chosen local children’s charity, APNEEF, as the cause for 2008. APNEEF is Ibiza & Formentera’s Association for Children with special needs.. Nearly 100 kids from babies to teenagers form the group, whose needs are an extreme variation of mental and physical disabilities. Our aim is to donate them a very healthy amount of euros. We hope we can count on your support.

We shall be holding a press call at Hotel Es Vive on Sat 4th October at 1pm at which Mr. Smash will be present, and when we will confirm the final details of the event. Representatives of APNEEF and a number of collaborators and sponsors will also be at the press call for The Butterfly Ball, organised by local PR & Events company; FIX Ibiza.

THE GRASSHOPPER’S FEAST
After the success of last year’s Thai Buffet Mr. Grasshopper aims to please the palette again at this year’s Ball with a Cava& Cocktail to wash down a sumptuous sushi selection prepared by our Japanese chef. After that, its time for a multiple choice Thai menu from Es Vive’s in-house chefs before sweets and desserts.

A selection of locally and organically produced wines and a hefty quantity of Hierbas ibicencas, provided by Ibicenc vineyard Can Rich should help wash down the feast.

THE AUCTION
As the final countdown begins, the auction catalogue is bursting with goodies already. Donations from household names from the worlds of art, sport, cinema, fashion and music have flooded in .all of them being primed to go under our auctioneer’s hammer this coming Wednesday 8th October. In fact, support has been so great that, due to the sheer quantity of contributions, this year guests will find a few other ways to take home a special something, with raffles, pinatas and random giveaways throughout the evening.

Whilst we are holding back the full catalogue til the day of the event itself, we can confirm that contributors of the items up for grabs include international models Kate Moss and Martina Klein, sports heroes Zidane, Ronaldo and Stephen Gerrard , musicians, artists and producers like Lil Louie Vega, , Dizzee Rascal, Maxi Jazz, artists Luis Gaspar, Marcos Torres, Jesu de Miguel, Sergio Ferrero, Rachel Brown (Hello UK Young Photographer 2007)

Bespoke jewellery from Cyd, botox and hypnotherapy sessions, weekends at Atzaro, VIP holidays to London and Ibiza, light shows from Aladdin and game consoles from X-box, concert tickets and tattoos, drinks, dinners and shopping vouchers, smellies and sillies; it really is a something for everyone choice at this year’s fundraiser, ‘The Butterfly Ball’.

THE BUTTERFLY BEAT
Whilst we plan to gather in the exterior of Hotel es Vive for drinks, dinner and auction, as the clock strikes 12, or thereabouts; it will be time to make our way inside to the Smirnoff Experience bar in the hotel for a wiggle to the butterfly-ball-beats of Jo Mills, Colin Peters, Ben deMiedo, Javi Box, B’fly & Toga, Polly Fey, Ian C and more lovely surprises on the point of confirmation.

TICKETS
In a bid to keep it simple(and real, in the current climate!) this year tickets can also be bought on the door.
At 60euro per person, price includes cava & cocktail reception, three course meal, registration to the auction, and much fun, games and dancing as the night wears on.

The 3rd Butterfly bll will take place at Es Vive again this year on Weds 3rd October. This year they’ll be supporting the localcal childrens charity APNEEF.

With Ibiza Summer 2008 heading for its peak, its time once again to think Charity Fund Raising by way of the 3rd Annual Butterfly Ball.

This year, the organisers of the event (Jill Canney & Elena Sanchez) have, after careful consideration, chosen local Ibiza association for disabled children, APNEEF as the charity of choice, with all monies raised at The Butterfly Ball being donated to that particular worthy cause.

APNEEF attends nearly 100 local children with severe physical and mental disabilities and is in dire need of proper funding and support. So, lets help them, folks.

Whilst details on the event are currently being finalized, so far, so good - The Butterfly Ball is shaping up nicely and tickets will soon be on sale. The night will follow pretty much the same formula as last year with a few extras- champagne reception, dinner, auction, live acts, a bit of charidee karaoke, DJs and a bit of an all round knees up, and all for a great island cause (these kids really do need help)

We know that this is a press release but they’re good friends and we like them:

The time of year has come round again for the luxurious and glamorous Hotel Es Vive to open its doors for another season of entertaining its pleasure-seeking, high-living guests from all over the world.

esvive.jpgPraised for its art deco design Hotel Es Vive combines a retreat-like ambience but retains its party vibe and looks for ways to make sure every guest feels special - relax in the new Jacuzzi, have a drink from our extensive cocktail list by the pool or enjoy some mouth watering delights from the kitchen. Situated on the South East side of Ibiza close to Ibiza Town, Playa d’en Bossa and the legendary club Space, Hotel Es Vive is ideally situated to experience the best of what Ibiza has to offer.

There are 55 stylish and cosy rooms to choose from, which include 2 suites and many with balconies and ocean views. No two rooms are identical in terms of lighting, wallpaper design, bathroom colour, curtains and carpet, which maintain the unique visual attraction.

esvive2.jpg2008 welcomes the opening of the new spa at Hotel Es Vive - offering a Jacuzzi, Sauna, Solarium and Salon perfect for pampering and relaxation in beautiful surroundings. Our experienced team of beauticians are available for pampering poolside or in the salon. Treatments include manicures, pedicures and facials.

The Smirnoff Experience bar is an un-missable destination for Balearic rock ‘n’ rolling! Open every night for fervent late night soirees with a house party flavour and good looking crowd; it’s swanky, sophisticated and lots of fun. With low slung furniture, transient mood lighting and an eclectic mix of design across four intimate areas, the bar creates a truly spectacular assault on the senses. Party hosts this season are Kidology, Feeling Music, Fierce Angels, Togetherness, Plushdafunk and resident DJ Ben Santiago.

We had lovely cakes and coffee this afternoon at the press call for the 2nd Butterfly Ball next week at Es Vive. This is a chance for island residents (and anyone else for that matter) to give something back to the island as its in aid of the islands local Cancer Charity and the UK Macmillons cancer support trust - charities that are very close to home to a lot of people here…

You can email the organisers through their myspace page or email: thebutterflyballATgooglemail.com

so we make no apology of copying and pasting todays press release (albiet tarted up for the web ;) )

‘The Butterfly Ball’

In aid of MACMILLAN CANCER SUPPORT +
AECC (Asociación Española contra el Cáncer)

Tues 9th October
Hotel Es Vive (Figueretas), Ibiza
From 20.30hrs.

“Creatures that fly, or that creep, hop or run,
Now wake all at once to a loud trumpet call,
To tell them this greatest of days has begun,
The day of the Feast and The Butterfly Ball”

William Plomer, The Butterfly Ball

The concept of The Butterfly Ball stems from a children’s book first published in 1973.

Written in poetic form by William Plomer and beautifully illustrated by Alan Aldridge, the book tells the tale of the creatures of the forest preparing themselves for ‘The Big Day’ - the day of The Butterfly Ball and the Grasshoppers Feast.

The event of the same name has been organised to take place in Ibiza in order to raise much needed funds for both Macmillan Cancer Support in the UK and the Spanish Cancer Association, AECC.

In order to raise awareness and cash for the cause, a night of eating (a sumptuous Thai Buffet), drinking(champagne to start), bidding(celebrity auction) and dancing(in the Hotel Es Vive’s Cabaret Bar) has been meticulously organised as a way to do just that.

The festivities will commence at 20.30 when the Hotel’s doors will be opened to guests, who will be greeted with champagne and canapés. The Buffet will follow on, a veritable feast of Thai delights, prepared by the in house chefs of Hotel Es Vive. Once guests have been sufficiently fed and watered, the Butterfly Celebrity Auction will commence.

Amongst other items up for grabs to the highest bidder; signed shirts from the likes of David Beckham and Pau Gasol, rock memorabilia from artists including Arctic Monkeys and Kaiser Chiefs, art from a range of well known artists, Marcos Torres and Gary Cook amongst them, weekend breaks and spa treatments from island hospitality institutions including Pikes, Atzaro, the Hotel Es Vive itself, not to mention the various other collectable antiques and unique items on offer in the auction.

The auction will be hosted by Keith Holden, legendary island character. Giving him a hand on the stage, the event’s presenter and island personality, Jessica Henderson (aka DJess)

After the big blow out storm yesterday its back to business as usual… The great thing about this time of year from now on is that the sun sets to the left of the horrible crane we can see from our balcony and we think they are far better than the summer sunsets… Tonight we got a lovely golden sunset.

Dont forget:

We’ll be at a do tomorrow where some of the items will be on display, so we’ll post pictures up tomorrow afternoon.
