Sa Caleta
The beach of Sa Caleta is about 100 metres long with a width of about 6 metres.

Much of this is covered in pebbles making it unsuitable for sunbathing, particularly as the beach is the narrowest section of the local coastal path.

Sa CaletaHowever, alongside the beach you’ll find the busy Mango’s beach bar offering free wi-fi internet connection.

This popular snack restaurant consists of a long sandy terrace very similar to a levelled beach. It has showers, sunbeds and parasols all of which are free of charge to their clients.

The beach is about one and a half kilometres out the of Santa Eulalia heading in the direction of Es Canar. Watch out for the signpost to Mango’s.

Tomorrow’s ibiza beach is Sa Guardiola

S'Illot des Rencli
The beach at s’Illot des Rencli is a mixture of sand and rock and the surrounding sea is a little reminiscent of a tacky postcard - except that here, it is for real! The sea is a palette of different blues that stand out against the craggy coast, and the effect is heightened by the juxtaposition of different levels of rocks.

The red rock of the cliffs along the coast and the green of the pine trees contrast beautifully with the sea.

The sandy beach is tiny and cramped. If you prefer a more peaceful spot, you should follow the line of the cliffs and venture a little further down the coast.

S'Illot des Rencli
Here, you will find plenty of relatively flat rocks to sun yourself on and escape the crowds.
However, you will need to be prepared to do some clambering to get down to the sea - and don’t forget your flip-flops. Antonio Mari’s beach restaurant overlooks the bay.

S'Illot des RencliTall pine trees provide welcome shade, the crickets chirrup non-stop and a cool breeze wafts in from the sea - what more could you ask for?

This well appointed restaurant gets pretty full in the summer season, so we recommend booking a table for lunch before setting off to the beach in the morning.

How to get there: the bay is located alongside the road to Portinatx. Turn left towards Portinatx just before San Joan. Drive for about five kilometres, till the signpost indicates your left turn.

Tomorrow is Sa Caleta

S'Illa des BoscS'Illa des BoscThis curious little beach of S’Illa des Bosc is easily seen from the beach of Port de San Miguel as it is on the opposite side of the same bay.

However, it is hard to find and the road that leads to it is not kind to cars.

If you want to attempt the journey, from Port de San Miguel head towards the Hotel Hacienda
and watch out for a signpost off to your right.

Alternatively, there is a pleasant path around the bay which we describe in our ‘Activities’ section (Hike C).

Once you get there you’ll find a nice sandy beach facing the bay to your right and a boulder strewn beach on the other side facing out to the occasionally violent sea.

s'Estanyols'EstanyolIndividualists wouldn’t be seen dead in a place frequented by the masses. They prefer spots a little further off the beaten track. The more difficult to reach and poorly signposted the place is the better, in their opinion.

The S’Estanyol bay fulfils all of these criteria.

A track that is transformed into a dust trail in the summer leads down to the sea and the PK2 beach restaurant. For years, this bar has been one of the main haunts of the Ibizan “in crowd”.

s'Estanyol

The key to its success is great music, good food and rustic understatement. The owner, Xavier, wouldn’t be best pleased if the community of Santa Eulalia opted to tarmac the road. He likes the potholes. He’s an individualist himself, and he knows that the bumpy access road gives his bar that certain something. Although it might sound odd, this is exactly what his guests come here for.

If you choose to visit PK2 in the morning, you’re in for a surprise: with the exception of a couple of early birds, the place is dead. It really starts to liven up in the afternoons and evenings.

By the way, the way down to the sea is just as rocky and uneven as the road to the beach. However, the view of the craggy coast and the clear blue water more than compensate for the lack of comfort. Mother Nature obviously has a soft spot for individualists.

S’ Estanyol: Take a left on the road from Jesus to Talamanca. Follow the winding road until you see the sign for PK2 on your right-hand side, then follow the track.

S'ArgamassaIf you’re interested in getting more from your day on the beach than rest, relaxation, a cold cocktail and paddling about on a lilo, then you should come to s’Argamassa beach.

This cove is the ideal location for almost every water based activity known to mankind - you can sail, dive, water ski, hire a canoe or even take a wild ride on a banana boat.

If you’re still not satisfied, then go for a trip on a parasail. It’s a great opportunity to combine the two elements of air and water!

S'ArgamassaS'ArgamassaAt the cove of s’Argamassa on the east coast those of a water based activity disposition will be sure to have a good time. Large pine trees throw their shadows onto parts of the beach, in the distance you can see the rocky red coastline and the silhouette of Santa Eulalia. Beneath his idyllically located beach bar Cesar Jerez has established an aquatic sports centre. Friends and loved ones who are less athletically inclined will still have a great day lounging around on the beach.

S’Argamassa is located off the road from Santa Eulalia to Es Canar. Just after the Club Cala Pada make a right and follow the signs.

Next Ibiza beach is s’Estanyol

With the International Music Summit going on we’ve neglected the Ibiza beaches series - so here’s the latest in the series.

Punta GaleraPunta GaleraDo you enjoy natural stretches of coast without sandy beaches, without comfortable loungers and loud bars? Do you yearn for the romantic and prefer peace and quiet to hurly burly?

Then Punta Galera on Ibiza’s west coast could be the perfect place for you. During the high season you certainly won’t be alone on Punta Galera, but your companions will be here for the same reasons, and you certainly won’t be fighting the crowds.

Off in the distance you can see Conejera Island and the deep, crystal clear waters promise welcome coolness.

Over the course of centuries Mother Nature has created a number of flat rocks of various heights where you can make yourself comfortable. In the nineties this rough rocky beach was a favourite meeting place for the party crowd.

If you had been at one of the legendary full moon parties in the west of the island it was a certainty you’d be celebrating the coming of the new day with them here.

Punta GaleraIn those days you could often be sure to have this place all to yourself, but Punta Galera is, like many of those long-lost places on the island, now well known. There have even been film scenes shot here.

While with increasing popularity there are more visitors these days, the configuration of the rocks is such that you can still find a secluded spot.

The descent down to the plateau is not terribly difficult, but be sure to wear some comfortable shoes with good soles and take everything you’ll need for a day on the beach e.g. water, snacks and sunscreen or an umbrella or hat.

To get there from Sant Antoni head towards Santa Agnes and then follow the signs to the left.

When the paved road turns into a bumpy camino you are best advised to park your car and walk the rest of the way.

Next Ibiza beach is S’Argamassa

Pou des Lleo
If you’re not bothered by a lack of recliners and sun umbrellas, then you’re going to like Pou des Lleó.

The coast is rugged and unspoilt and the blue sky contrasts beautifully with the red earth and green pine woods.

Although Pou des Lleó does have a small sandy beach, we recommend walking a little further down the coast to find a more secluded spot to go swimming.

Pou des LleoBear in mind that the sand around here is not the softest, but the beauty of the natural surroundings and the view of the little island of Tagomago more than make up for the lack of creature comforts.

If you’re hungry, you can opt to stop off at one of the two restaurants, Can Salvadó and Pou des Lleo, which serve a selection of fresh fish and typical Ibizan rice dishes.

You also have the Bon Estar, a small kiosk on the sandy beach, that sells snacks and drinks and is relatively cheap for a chiringuito with such fine views and ambience…

How to get there: From Sant Carlos, drive towards Es Figueral, then follow the signposts.

Tomorrow is Punta Galera

Port d'es TorrentCala d’es Torrent is a large sandy beach at the head of an inlet sheltered by the adjacent Punta Pedrera promontory.

It derives its name from the ‘torrente’ (storm river) that flows down from the surrounding hills whenever we experience heavy rain. This also explains the lush vegetation that follows the torrente down to the beach providing welcome shade in the hot summer months.
It is a busy beach because it is one of the prettiest along this stretch of coast, and because there are many holiday hotels in the surrounding area.

Tomorrow is Pou des Lleo

Port de Ses Caletes

Port de Ses Caletes
This little isolated beach of Port de Ses Caletes in the wilderness of the north coastal mountains is almost entirely untouched.

A collection of half a dozen ancient boathouses offer the only clue to previous human presence.

The rugged camino that led down to the beach has been properly surfaced, which only slightly increases the odds that you won’t find yourself there alone…

Tomorrow is Port Des Torrent

Port de San MiguelPort de San Miguel
The tourism infrastructure is spot on - the Port de San Miguel, on Ibiza’s north coast, offers every possible comfort.

Bars and restaurants line the cove, there are supermarkets and cars for hire.

They also offer every sort of water based activity - there’s a diving school, you can water ski, go for a spin on a “banana” boat or take a relaxing ride in a pedalo and explore the cove.

Port de San MiguelPort de San MiguelYou can also pay a visit to the caves of Can Marca that are within walking distance of the beach. Just head past the hotel complexes and up the road towards Benirras.

On the left-hand side of the cove there is a narrow path that meanders along the coast to Cala d’es Moultons.

It’s a lovely walk through the shade of the pine trees.
