It’s Tuesday night in San Antonio, so that’ll be Ibiza Rocks then at Bar M on the beach? But in the light of the ‘goings on’ of the last few weeks nobody’s quite sure what’s going to happen tonight. Could be mounted riot police if some of the more extreme gossip is to be
believed…

To test the water ‘Good Shoes’, from the London borough of Merton, were sent on and did a sterling job opening with the observation ‘when I say something just say ‘I do…’, alright?’ Thereafter they didn’t say much but delivered a tight set letting their lyrics do the rest of the chat.

It must be tough supporting a headline like the Kaiser Chiefs, but somebody’s got to do it and they made a good fist of it…

As the excitement built the roadies brought out the set lists and secured them in front of each musician’s microphone with a couple of bottles of beer. Meantime it was getting crowded as everyone and his mate turned up in numbers…

The show saw lift-off as the Kaiser Chiefs took to the stage, making a mockery of the Diario de Ibiza’s claim that the Ibiza Rocks party was over!

Tonight saw a storming gig to a packed house, including some apparently recently converted rock fans. Judge Jules, Pete Tong and Goldie were amongst a host of other ‘industry curious people’, out to see whether the baton police would be deployed, or perhaps an outbreak of common sense is in the pipeline, whereby the powerful DJ mates of the club owners point out that they’re in danger of driving everyone back into the hills again? Nobody can more accurately predict a forthcoming change of tide in the musical landscape than those whose profession it is.

Ibiza Rocks has put on some seriously kicking bands this summer and, in between times, some seriously interesting ‘indie rock’ DJ’s. So I suppose it’s only reasonable to expect the local DJ’s to cast an observatory eye over the proceedings…

A top gig and fun tomorrow - we can’t say where it will be, we would love to but we promised we wouldnt - and although we want to make certain references - we cant…

On Monday Feb 12th Amanda, Jake, Phoebe and I flew to Ibiza for Jake’s half term, to make some early arrangements for this season’s “Judgement Sundays”. I love Ibiza in the out-of-season winter months - more of you should try it. The island’s covered with almond blossom, the citrus trees bulge with oranges and lemons, and the smell is totally different. The only downer is the lack of direct flights from the UK until April. One has to travel via Barcelona or Madrid, meaning that our two small children needed to be occupied for nearly five hours in either direction. Jake buried his head in his PSP, and we bought Phoebe a bunch of small childrens’ DVDs to watch on Amanda’s laptop.

The weather in Ibiza was stunning during our four days on the island, ranging between 20 and 22 degrees. You don’t expect to come home with a tan from Spain in February, but even my pale Irish skin got some colour.
