This week Los Fabulosos is proud to present special guest Lewis “Smokey” Robinson of Nascente Recordings, who will be serving up a red hot selection of Brazilian bangers straight from the favelas of Rio, next to Los Fabulosos resident K.C. Baxter.

And after last week’s venue change we are pleased to announce we are back in our proper home - Somni in Figueretes - under the Hotel Ibiza Playa, on the Passeig de ses Pituses.

Los Fabulosos, a new club night starting in June promises to be this summer’s hottest ticket - bringing London’s exploding world music scene to Ibiza’s shores.

The party, every Thursday night, features some of Europe’s finest world music DJs playing tropical sounds from the favelas of Brazil to the barrios of Panama and Columbia.

Los Fab is promoted by British husband and wife team, Kevin and Elsa Baxter, who recently left their jobs as journalists on The Times to move to the island.

Elsa, 30, says: “We’re bringing something new and exciting to Ibiza. It’s such sexy music that after a couple of caipirinhas you can’t help dancing to it.

“Ibiza has a reputation as being the party island and Los Fab is going to be the party of the summer.”

Los Fab has grown out of the hugely popular world music parties that are being thrown in Dalston and Shoreditch, in East London. The area has become a magnet for some incredible musicians and DJs from around the world, who have teamed up with the local cognoscenti to promote events that are taking the city by storm. Kevin and Elsa believe it’s time Ibiza got a taste of the action.

Los Fab’s DJ line-up for the summer makes for impressive reading. Hugo Mendez of Soundway Records and Lewis Robinson formerly of cult Brazilian label Far Out, but now label manager of Nascente Records, have signed on as residents for the summer with Frank Merritt and Jono Baggaley also playing dates.

Kevin, 34, says: “We’ve left no stone unturned in getting the names we wanted to play at Los Fab.

“For the opening party we’re really delighted to have secured London’s legendary Sofrito Collective to kick the season off in style. They are currently organising parties across the globe, including a massive night in New York, so for them to play our opening party is a real coup for us.

“Our DJs mix together the different genres of South American music in a way that really needs to be heard to be believed. I think the party people of Ibiza are going to absolutely love it.”

Los Fab is being held at the brand new club Somni (which means dream in Catalan) on the Paseo Maritimo de Figueretes. The club, under the Hotel Ibiza Playa, is currently being completely refurbished and has been kitted out with superb sound and lighting systems. Boasting two rooms and a chill out bar that looks out onto the beach through a huge glass wall, the club is not short of Ibizan glamour and style.

Pepe Verdera, club owner, said: “This is a brand new club for the real spirit of the island.”

Joan Ribas, DJ on IbizaGlobalRadio and Somni musical director, said: “We have a number promoters doing parties at our venue this summer - one is Los Fab with their amazing Latin sounds on Thursday nights. We are really looking forward to working with them.”

Elsa said: “We’d love to have a cosmopolitan mix of people coming along - especially those living on the island who are looking for something a little different from the big clubs and the house music scene.”

Kevin added: “We’d also love to hear from any local world music DJs or musicians, who might like to get involved. If they are good enough I’m sure we can find a slot for them.”
