Friday saw the opening party of the family run ‘Immer Blau’ chiringuito on the beach of Niu Blau, between Cala Pada and Mango’s just north of Santa Eulalia.
Theirs is always one of the first opening parties of the season and always attracts a big crowd, so turning up a few minutes late means a bit of a walk as the car park was so full that every car blocked in every other – it was as if they were planning an aerial photo shoot for a car manufacturer’s advert. However, as it turned out our timing was perfect, the paella was just ready to be served as we searched for a free table.
The audience comprised the usual suspects at this time of the year – predominantly other bar and restaurant owners discussing tactics and expectations for the imminent season, and planning their own opening parties.
The sun was shining, the sea was calm and both the paella and the accompanying lubricants were free. Little wonder smiles abounded as each contemplated his imminent seasonal income stream. (more…)
