The Eivissa Municipal Library is by far the best stocked on the islands, with a total of about 40,000 titles occupying two large floors of the Can Ventosa cultural centre.
The collection of foreign language works is located in the reading room on the first floor. There is a whole bookshelf dedicated to almost 150 English language titles. John Irving's €Hotel New Hampshire€ rubs shoulders with the likes of Ernest Hemingway, Oscar Wilde and Nick Hornby, as well as a whole host of more popular fiction by authors such as John Le Carre.
There is a wide selection of daily newspapers and magazines, although these are limited to Spanish language titles.
Those fluent in Spanish will be interested to learn that the library holds a wide range of literature by local writers. If you take the time to hunt through the shelves, you will come across a number of unusual titles dealing with the people and history of Ibiza, Formentera and the Balearic Islands.
The Mediateca on the first floor is also pretty impressive with about 7,000 audiovisual titles, as well as two televisions equipped with VCRs, one DVD player and several CD players. Computers are available for visitors to use the internet for free.
