Hike C - From Port de San Miguel to Torre des Molar

The starting point of this walk is the beach of Port de San Miguel (photo 1), (photo 2). The path begins from the left hand side of the beach, alongside the Port de Balanzat restaurant, and is signposted 'Cala d'es Multons' (photo 3).
The narrow path shaded by pine trees offers a fine view across to the island of S'Illa des Bosc (photo 4) and follows the coastline round to the tiny beach of Cala d'es Multons (photo 5).

This normally sandy beach had been stripped of sand by the torrential autumn rains of 2007 at the time that this picture was taken. You can see the sand now covering the normally turquoise seabed (photo 6). On the other side of the bay we follow the path between two boathouses uphill around the coast, taking in the fabulous views (photo 7) as we pass through the woodland hillsides.
Eventually our path meets a camino (photo 8) with numbered blue arrows pointing in either direction. Turning right (arrow 1) brings you down to a small bay, which is well worth a visit before returning to the junction again. This time you carry straight on up the hill (arrow 2) till you eventually reach a white shed at which you turn off to the right (photo 9). This path takes you straight to the pirate tower of Torre des Molar (photo 10).

You can enter the tower and climb the narrow spiral staircase within to the viewing platform, which offers stunning views of Benirras and the northern coastline (photo 11), Port de San Miguel (photo 12) and the hilly interior of the island to the south (photo 13), (photo 14).

The route back requires that you return to the white shed at the last junction and this time head to the right along a camino that leads you over the hills back to Port de San Miguel (photo 15). As the path reaches the valley bottom you pass an old abandoned 'corrale' (photo 16) and cultivated fields to your right (photo 17). This in turn leads to a tarmac road (photo 18) that goes up to the island's first 5-star hotel, the Hacienda. However, we follow it left and downhill (photo 19) then sharp left past an olive tree nursery and the local water treatment plant to the main road.

On your left, a few dozen metres before you reach the main road, it is worth your while to pause and peer into the depths of a 'bolsa' (water storage tank) where you might spot 'Tel' the terrapin who lives there.
If he spots you he'll swim over to make your acquaintance (photo 20). He enjoys company… (photo 21). Having made your farewells, a left turn at the main road (photo 22) takes you back to the beach of Port de San Miguel - your destination.
